Tonight was my first time tending the hens in three weeks. Needless to say, there were also no eggs in the kitchen.

Saturday was the 5th annual Tour de Coops in Portland and the Eastside Egg Coop was one of the stops. This event combined with the Zenger Farm Cooking Camp helped deplete all reserves of eggs. So tonight, possibly for the first time since I began my once a week Wednesday evening chicken over a year ago, I brought home the eggs I collected.

The protocol for egg taking is to take the oldest eggs available. I’ve managed to bring home eggs that were collected a day or two before, but Today the only eggs available were same day fresh. An extra special treat.
